I am looking for some software that is free, I said free, for the mac that I can use to encode some videos, not dvd's, to different formats. I have an encoder for my laptop called super copyright, and it works great but recently it started screwing up. I have an mp4 I need to convert to either an mpg or an avi and I can't seem to do tat successfully on my laptop. I checked quicktime, but it wants me to purchase qt pro, and Imovie won't let me save to different formats,a nd all I've found are shareware. So, has anyone heard of or used a free program that will encode videos fairly easily? Thanks. Please, none of those say nothing posts.
Check out handbrake. It's exactly what you want. Also, to convert movies to iPod, check out iSquint.
Seconding handbrake. It's very vvoiceover-friendly.
ok thanks. I hadn't checked it out, and spike had mentioned it but I read it was for dvd rips, and not for video encoding so that was my confusion. Tanks. I will test it out and post if I have any questions.
